Report

Report:Parklangley hosted old rivals Bexley 1 and what a close match it was!
Mikey Mitterer Vs George Fuller
Mikey, only 10 years old has a hard task this season near the top of team, but on Saturday performed fantastically. Unfortunately hard itting George had a bit much for Mikey. Awesome retrival from the young Mitterer proved to be too little as George made fewer mistakes and came out on top in most of the long rallies. Mikey, not one to give up, fought with the heart of a lion and even mamaged a trick shot at match point down to leave it 10-9 in the third, all on the edge of our seats as George closed out a good match 3-0.
Katie Mills Vs Harry Hamblin
Katie playing in her first competitive match played her heart out and didnt let the more experienced Harry take his foot of the gas. She scrambled around the court retriving as Harry controlled the T and ultimitely had more winning shots available and took the first 2 easily. The third was a lot closer as Katie battled to a 11-7 loss, a great performance from bothand a nice one to watch. After coming off court, Katie informed me that she loved the challenge of the first team and hopes she will get more chances to play, exactly the sort of enthusiasm and drive i'd expect from her. Watch out everybody!
Alex Gent Vs Danny Appleby
A harsh match for Danny as Alex was drafted in, in from of Danny on Thursday as another player pulled out and Danny looked on as Alex agreed to play. Danny, a fine retriver and all action player, was diving from corner to corner in the usual fashion we expect from him, couldnt quite cope with Alex' fast opaced game. Milimeters above the tin and dying before the half court lineand travelling at about 300mph wasn't enjoyable for the Bexley man of steel (found out when i accidently bumped into him and nearly had my ribs broken). This one finished up quickly with Alex wrapping it up in 3 quick games. 2-1 Bexley!
Nick Zamar Vs Jack Needham
This match needed to be a 3-0 pl victory for us to have a chance of taking all the points. A quick first 2 from young Zamar put PL in the driving seat and with the other results all 3-0, looked to be a match settled on points. But,Jack had other ideas, and with Nick relaxing and Jack starting to play more aggressive squash, all was still to fight for. Jack scrapped through the next 2 to take it to a decider. Big serves and the usual deftly executed drop shots played anytime the ball was in the front of the court from Nick was a bit much for Jack as he tried desperately to finish the comeback he started. Ultimitely this was the decider, and Jack fighting against the odds from 2-0 down meant that Bexley won overall.
A great match, not the result PL wanted, but good games all around and a really nice bunch.
