Angus Howard Vs James Angell
PL unfortunately not their strongest due to squad rotation left Angus 'goose' Howard with a hard battle ahead of him. Having met earlier in the season and not seen many points go his way, Angus knew he was in for a hard game. James, with a brutal forwhand ran Angus around in the beginning of the first with the scrappy 8 year old fighting to stay in the game. Then some great groundstrokes from Angus pulled the game a bit closer as the backhand corner seemed to be an area James struggled with. After a huge fight, James ran out 11-9 winner. The second saw much of the same but James being slightly more clinical and he ran out an easy 11-4 winner. The third was a real treat to us watching as Angus peppered the backhand corner and covered the court well throwing in a few lobs, James though to his credit, didnt let this get to him, knuckled down and took good advantage of loose shots on his forehand with good effect. Despite this being very close, the result was the same as the first, 11-9 and 3-0 to James.
Danyal Vs Charlie
Danyal struggled in this match to cope with having his backhand targeted, not able to get enough power to offer a decent counter to Charlie's depth. But a determined performance saw him running around in his usual spider like fashion, getting shots that had been written off as winners. However the real difference, Charlie's front court boast which tormented Danyal forcing him to chase across the front court. A good match finishing 3-0
Tom Vs Tommy
This was an epic marathon of a match which i thoroughly enjoyed. Tommy, a good player controlled the first 2 with ease, with a slight hint of a comeback from Tom. Tommy played some fantastic drops that were almost unplayable, one inparticular that got a roar from the crowd. Tom then took some advice from team captain and played fantastically. Great rallies ensued for two games as both boys covered the court very well, Tom being made to do the most of the work. Tactically, Tom played very well and managed to win the next 2 to take it to a nail biting decider. However, the effort to get back to 2-2 took a lot of out of Tom, and a few quick points in the 5th from Tommy, left Tom tense and mistakes started to come in. So no storybook finish for Tom but huge improvement in his game this year and more to come i'm sure.
A great match! Well played Cranbrook |
