Report

Report:Ah Bexley, many times i faced you over the years, now the next gen!
First up Tom Dean Vs Luke Dagger
Tom proudly notched up his first win of the season this week with a nice 3-1 victory over a plucky young player in Luke. The first 2 were fought over very closely and with Tom 10-8 up in the first, we thought first blood would be heading PL's way, but Luke, in determined fashion fought back and took the 1st 12-10. The second saw a reverse of score as Tom took the second 12-10 to pull level. The third saw Tom taking some advice from team coach listen and executed fantastically as he put in some great serves and worked Luke high on the backhand, and snuck it 11-8. The fouth, perhaps with Luke a little deflated after seeing a possible 2-0 victory slip away, and with Tom finding the backhand corner so well, ran out an easy 11-2 winner. 3-1 to Tom.
Ben Kell Vs Grace Dagger
Ben, quickly becoming a smart player around the court, faced up against Kent junior Grace at No2.
Ben took an early lead in the first and it seemed to be heading towards a 1 sided affair, then Grace started to fight back and got it back to 8-6, after a mamouth rally finishing with a fantastic drop by Ben put an end to the comeback and he ran out 11-8. Although both were moving around the court very well, it was Ben who took control of the T and started working Grace very hard from one side of the court to the other and this led to an 11-4 win. The third was a one sided game, the only incident of note was Ben being hit in the lip with a ball, but in true team player spirit, he got some ice on it, dusted himself off and went back on to win 11-1. 3-0 to Ben.
Max Tunon Vs Zack Bhana
Having seen these 2 battle out a very close fought game on Tuesday, i was excited to see the outcome of this match. It seemed that maybe age and matchplay experience worked in Zacks favour as he stormed into an 8-0 lead. Max, a bit shellshcoked, wasnt moving his feet and Zack was mixing in some good serves with some powerful winners. 11-3 to Zack. The second saw much of the same, neither boy getting much out of short rallies and serving mistakes. 11-6. The third saw a revival from Max as they two youngsters found their rytham and started moving eachother and hitting much better, Max sneaking through 11-9. The crowd stirred as a potential comback was on the cards as Max and Zack were neck and neck throughout the fourth. Big forhand winners from both were deciding most rallies, as they struggled to cope with the power on eachothers backhands respectivly. Zack kept his nose ahead and took the fourth 11-9 and match 3-1. A great match to top off a very nice afternoon. These kids will over the years face eachother a lot and i look forward to it.
